The Princess line went into production at the end of the 1950s and Vanden Plas were commissioned to design a premium model for Austin's affluent customers, with fittings that included leather seating and top of the range upholstery. The Princess remains one of Austin Motor Company's (later BMC and Leyland) most successful and revered products.
